Every Client Is Not YOUR Client

Dec 25, 2024

One of the most liberating lessons I’ve learned in my entrepreneurial journey is this: every client is not your client.

If someone’s values, needs, or expectations don’t align with the way you want to work and serve, the relationship will become draining and frustrating—for both of you. It’s not just about making a sale; it’s about creating transformation and building trust.

So, how do we shift our focus from chasing money to making an impact?

Stop Chasing Money, Start Chasing Impact

The key to creating lasting fulfillment and success isn’t in taking on every opportunity that comes your way. It’s in getting crystal clear about who you want to serve and the transformation you want to offer them.

When you know your Dream Client—the people who genuinely value your expertise and align with your mission—you stop wasting time trying to convince people to see your worth. Instead, you focus on building relationships with those who already resonate with your vision.

This clarity isn’t just empowering; it’s transformative—your energy shifts. Your messaging sharpens. And your ability to make an impact grows exponentially.

As Seth Godin so perfectly puts it:

"Do work that matters for people who care."

This has been my mantra and guiding light in shaping my business.

The Power of Authentic Storytelling

The best way to attract your Dream Clients is by telling a better story.

When your marketing is rooted in authenticity and connection, you naturally draw in the right people. And it starts with being real—sharing who you are, what you stand for, and why you do what you do.

For me, showing up authentically has always been a non-negotiable.

Early in my career, I did a live video broadcast during the pandemic. I had planned to go on camera fully polished and ready to deliver value. But that day, life had other plans.

While getting ready, my son had a seizure.

By the time I hit “go live,” I had only managed to finish makeup on one side of my face. I could have canceled. I could have hidden behind excuses. But instead, I showed up as I was, half-done and raw.

That video is still the one my Tribe mentions most often.

To this day, it serves as a reminder to myself—and to them—that life isn’t always picture-perfect. And that’s okay. What matters is showing up.

Authenticity isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a magnet. When you’re willing to share your real experiences, you build trust and create a connection that no amount of polished marketing can replicate.

Building Meaningful Relationships

One of the most intentional decisions I’ve made is to approach LinkedIn as more than just a platform for professional networking. I see it as a place to build meaningful relationships with people who share my vision and values.

I’m always open to connecting with heart-centered visionaries, expanding my referral network, and collaborating with heart-centered visionaries driven by purpose.

This isn’t always the fastest process.

Building an aligned Tribe—one that feels like home—takes time. But the relationships I’ve built here on LinkedIn are the foundation of my business. They allow me to work exclusively with Dream Clients and serve at a deeper level.

It’s also why I value connecting people. There’s something uniquely rewarding about being a bridge—introducing the right people to create collaborations that have a meaningful impact on the world.

Balancing Hope and Realism

Entrepreneurship is often glamorized as a constant stream of wins and opportunities. But the reality is that it’s full of challenges, uncertainties, and messy moments.

What’s worked for me is embracing a balance between hope and realism. I believe in the power of inspiration and the importance of keeping your eyes on the bigger picture. But I also believe in being honest about the day-to-day struggles.

This balance keeps me grounded. It’s what allows me to navigate the ups and downs of entrepreneurship without losing sight of why I started this journey in the first place.

Lessons from Slowing Down

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that slowing down often leads to greater alignment.

By taking time to reflect on who I want to serve and how I want to show up in the world, I’ve been able to create a business that feels deeply fulfilling.

Here are some lessons that have shaped my journey:

  • Clarity is everything: When you’re clear on your values and vision, decision-making becomes effortless.
  • Authenticity builds trust: The more real you are, the more people will want to work with you.
  • Aligned relationships lead to joy: Working with Dream Clients isn’t just better for your business—it’s better for your soul.

Now It’s Your Turn

If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or like you’re spinning your wheels trying to appeal to everyone, take a step back. Reflect on these questions:

  • Who do you truly want to serve?
  • What transformation will they experience by working with you?
  • How can you show up more authentically in your content and conversations?

The answers to these questions will guide you toward a business—and a life—that feels aligned, impactful, and deeply rewarding.

Final Thoughts

Building an aligned Tribe and a meaningful business isn’t always the fastest path. But it is ultimately the most fulfilling.

When you stop chasing money and start focusing on impact, you’ll find that the right clients, opportunities, and collaborations naturally find their way to you.

Your story matters.

Your work matters.

And the world is waiting for the unique value only you can provide.

Let’s continue to connect, inspire, and create meaningful change—together.
