I knew I had to make this online business thing work for the sake of my son, and myself after leaving a dangerously toxic marriage.

To figure it out, I started listening to podcasts on how to build and monetize an online business. I also attended workshops, conferences, and purchased online courses.

For one program I was in, I set my alarm to log on to Zoom calls at 3:00 am because the instructor lived halfway around the world.

I saw firsthand that it was possible to teach a course poolside in Bali or in a posh hotel in the UK while still making money working from my laptop.

The instructors were great, committed, and offered tons of value and hands-on training…AND…

IT DIDN’T WORK FOR ME 😳

Let me be clear, it was not the fault of the course creators…

The truth was…I wasn’t ready.

⚠️I hadn’t dialed in my message.

⚠️I wasn’t clear on who my Dream Client was.

⚠️I couldn’t clearly articulate how I could serve them.

And…most importantly…

⛔️I wasn’t able to share my story in a way they could see how my knowledge and experience could benefit them.

 

The truth is…all I wanted to do was coach and help people

I didn’t want to do…dare I say it???

I REALLY hated the scammy sales tactics I saw the “bro marketers” doing online.

Yet, the cold hard truth is...

You can’t coach if you don’t have any clients.

And you can’t live a laptop lifestyle if there’s no one else on the other side of the screen.

 

So, what’s a dreamer to do???

 

Something Shocking Happened…

The world stopped and we were literally and figuratively holding our breath to see what was going to happen next.

I was “Sheltering In Place” during the pandemic caring for my adult son with special needs on my own 24/7.

My “wasbund” stopped paying his share of support and stopped communicating, not even calling to see how our son was.

I couldn’t focus on that…I just knew that I had to keep my son safe, healthy, and out of the hospital.

Because there was so much fear and uncertainty, I created a downloadable workbook and offered it at a nominal cost to encourage people and be of service.

 

I also started going live on Facebook.

And it REALLY resonated with my community.

They knew and trusted that I was there to help and support them.

I shared what my life looked like caring for an adult son with special needs in the middle of a global pandemic.

One time I went live with half of my face done because my son had had a seizure while I was getting “camera ready.”

My Tribe (online audience) grew exponentially.

Workbook sales exceeded all of my other courses or books.

I created a 3-day training based on the questions, comments, and DMs that my Tribe sent me during this time

And without even trying, I learned how storytelling and conversations build authority and a loyal customer base.

I built a framework, a personal brand, and ultimately, a speaking and coaching business around this simple and authentic way of engaging with my Dream Clients.
