“I Chose Myself—and Everything Changed”
Apr 02, 2025
There are details to a story I haven’t shared widely… until now.
Not because I was hiding it, but because it held so much weight. It shaped who I am and how I show up in the world. And recently, with everything happening in my life—including walking through my mother’s transition—I realized it’s time to speak it out loud.
I was married for 30 years.
And I left.
Not because I had a perfect plan.
Not because it felt easy.
But because I could no longer betray myself.
That decision came after years of broken promises, blame-shifting, and silent suffering. I realized I was giving advice to other women I wasn’t wise enough to follow myself.
So I chose to stop tolerating what I wouldn’t accept for anyone else I loved.
Things escalated. And I left—with no backup plan, a special needs son depending on me, and no guarantee of what would come next.
Someone once asked me, “Weren’t you afraid of being alone?”
My answer still echoes in my spirit to this day:
No. I was more afraid of settling for less and never becoming who I was always meant to be.
There was no time to be overwhelmed.
I was homeless briefly.
I was parenting, healing, rebuilding—and still holding on to a vision of something better.
And would you believe… I journaled my way into the exact home I live in now.
A fireplace. An island in the kitchen. Skylights and high ceilings. $5 under my budget.
That’s when I truly understood what it meant to live a story worth telling.
This wasn’t just a healing journey. It was a rebirth.
Through prayer, movement, meditation, therapy, and a circle of soul-aligned women, I came home to myself.
And ironically, that’s how my business was born.
That’s how I became the Dream Doula.
Because what I now teach my clients—the storytelling, the branding, the clarity—was born through fire and faith. It’s not about marketing tactics.
It’s about reclaiming your voice, your vision, and your power.
It’s about showing women what’s possible when they stop performing and start becoming.
Today, I’m walking my mother home as she nears the end of her life. And I do it with the full strength of the woman I had to become in order to be here, present and grounded, for this sacred moment.
This is why I do what I do.
This is why I speak.
This is why I share stories.
Because you don’t have to stay stuck in a life that no longer reflects the truth of who you are.
If you’re feeling the nudge…
If something in your soul is whispering, “It’s time,”
Know this:
You're not broken. You're birthing.
And your story? It’s just getting started.
If this message spoke to your spirit, I’d love to invite you to something special I’m hosting on Thursday, May 1st—an intimate, soul-powered masterclass called:
